The 140-acre site, along the Rio Grande and north of Espanola, has seven historic buildings, the most important of which is the 19th century 6,000 SF adobe house, completely refurbished in 1924 by Mary Cabot Wheelwright, founder of the Wheelwright Museum in Santa Fe. Spears Architects has designed and directed the $1,000,000 partial reconstruction and restoration of the Wheelwright House and auxiliary buildings and site features. We have worked with the Foundation to plan and develop the restoration and adaptive reuse of buildings and landscape on site. We are currently administering the contract for construction of the a new visitors center for the site which we designed last year. In the form of an old colonial "placita," the 5,000 SF center will include reception sala and exhibit space.
